Our Heritage Day Celebration Was One To Remember!

At Faith Daycare & Learning Centre, we proudly celebrated Heritage Day on Wednesday October 16, 2024 with vibrant colors, cultural activities, and a profound sense of unity. Our little ones were fully immersed in the festivities of the day, dressed in traditional Jamaica colors and their bandana attire, engaging in fun and educational activities that highlighted our rich culture.

From the moment the celebration started, the school was buzzing with excitement as the students looked on with curiosity and the parents reminiscing about the old days.

One of the highlights was the basket-carrying demonstration, where the children got a taste of the old-time Jamaican market day as our principal recited the Jamaican folk song,

"Mi carry mi ackee go a Linstead Market not a quattie worth sell,

Mi Carry me ackee go a Linstead Market not a quattie worth sell. Lord what night, not a bite, what a Saturday night. Lawd what a night not a bite, what a Saturday night"

The demonstration illustrated how baskets were traditionally carried to the market, captivating the young audience with its nostalgic charm. The children were fully engaged as they learned about this aspect of Jamaican heritage, which brought the culture and history to life in a fun and memorable way.

Dressed in their beautiful bandana dresses, the girls beamed as they showcased their baskets of Jamaica's National fruit, ackee.

The backdrop for the day’s celebration, as seen in the first image, was adorned with images of national heroes, cultural icons, and currency that speak to Jamaica’s rich history. Our little stars posed in front of this stunning display, showing off their outfits and proudly embracing the theme: One Love, One People, One Heritage.

As part of the activities, the children explored various aspects of Jamaica’s culture, including its heroes, currency, food, music, and traditions. The day’s event was a colorful reminder of our nation’s resilience, creativity, and unity. We are so proud of our children, staff and parents for bringing this celebration to life and ensuring that the legacy of Jamaica’s rich heritage is passed on to the next generation.
